''The Autumn Statement was prefaced by a promise to remove planning red tape, but the proposals are underwhelming.
Acknowledging that it takes too long to approve infrastructure projects and business planning applications, the Chancellor confirmed that as of next year, the system will be reformed to enable local authorities to recover the full costs of processing business planning applications, provided that they are determined within a guaranteed time frame. Failure to do so will result in the fees being automatically refunded and the application being determined at no cost to the applicant.''
