The Cabinet Office shows its continued support of the Government strategy to create an efficient, fit-for-purpose and sustainable estate by releasing a Government Property Finder tool. This further consolidates on statements made in the State of the Estate 2013, published on 6 June 2014, that ‘the Government has a duty to the taxpayer to drive down its overheads, including the cost of the space we occupy’. The property tool will provide complete transparency of the Governments property portfolio and will allow people to challenge its use under the Right to Contest. The tool will allow users to search for government owned property by location or government department which is available to rent or buy. It is hoped that this tool will encourage efficient use of space and ensure that Government properties are put to the best possible use.
